Speculations began when a code concealed inside the Cupertino tech giant's OS X EI Captain beta version was revealed. This discovery suggests that Apple may release a 21.5-inch 4K iMac Retina.

A report in Christian Today states that the metadata for OS X EI Captain indicated an iMac screen with a native resolution of 4096 x 2304 pixels. It is thought that this display will be for an upcoming iteration of the 21.5-inch iMac, which supposedly requires upgrading. The current iMac model comes with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

In October 2014, the 27-inch Apple desktop computer arrived with a 5K Retina display, but the 21.5-inch model still uses a regular LED display. Several media outlets are certain that Apple is also eager to update its smaller desktop computer.

IGN reports that as of now Apple doesn't have any desktop computer with 4K resolution. Hence, if the rumors prove to be true, it seems that the tech firm will be eventually be releasing an iMac Retina with 4K resolution. According to Tech Times, this machine should be a great hit among the public.

The premium iMac came with a price tag of $2,499 at launch. While Apple is now selling the device for $1,999, even this pricing is considered to be too steep for many. It is expected that the new iMac will cost less compared to the bulky 5K iMac Retina.
