New 'Green Lantern' Movie Cast News: 'Furious 7' Actor Tyrese Gibson Wants Lead Role in DC Comics Film
It looks like the "Fast and Furious" star Tyrese Gibson has high hopes of hopping on the bandwagon for superhero action flicks. His sights aren't just on any character though, Gibson is particularly interested in donning the green ring for the titular role of John Stewart aka Green Lantern.
He's taken to social media to express his interest in the role, particularly with fan made content on his Instagram account of him in costume.
His posts feature various captions such as:
"Rumor has it that."
"Followers who are NOT in the know..... Green Lantern is the codename of a fictional superhero who appears in comic books published by DC Comics. He fights evil with the aid of rings which grant him a variety of extraordinary powers."
"20|20 'I am fully committed to suiting up for this adventure' - @Tyrese #GL 'In brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight. Let those who worship evil's might, Beware my power, Green Lantern's light!!!'"
So far, Warner Bros., which owns DC Comics, hasn't revealed who will don the power ring in "Justice League Part One," which hits theaters in 2017 or the planned "Lantern" standalone flick, slated for 2020," writes NY Daily News.
The actor seems to be following the steps of his co-star Vin Diesel in promoting his interest for a role in a superhero movie through social media. Diesel nabbing the role as the lovable Groot in "Guardians of the Galaxy" is largely in part to his presence on Facebook and other various mediums.
DC's movie lineup clearly has a solo Green Lantern film in the coming years, and from the lackluster performance of Ryan Reynolds in the last adaptation, it's safe to say the spot is open.
The 7th installment to his action thriller franchise, "Furious 7" drops later this year on April 3rd.
