New England Patriots NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Darrelle Revis Leaving Following Devin McCourty Deal?

With the news of the New England Patriots signing a five-year, $47.5 million deal with safety Devin McCourty, rumor has it that cornerback Darrelle Revis could be leaving the NFL football team.

The deal with McCourty leaves Revis to look for other team options as he will be available in the open market Tuesday afternoon. If Revis does indeed return to the Patriots, it will be the result of the team winning him in the free agency.

The deal with Revis was for $20 million. According to HNGN, Revis would have received a $12.5 million roster bonus, a $7.5 million base salary and a $5 million signing bonus. Revis will turn 30 this summer and Eric Wilbur from Boston.com says that the team could suffer in two ways if they decide to let Revis go.

"One, they may have to face him twice a year in what's becoming a more interesting - if not more competitive - AFC East," Wilbur said, "Two, it would degrade their championship-level defense back down to something reminiscent of the past decade when the Pats were good, but just not enough, in their annual Lombardi hunt."

Various sports media outlets on the Internet agree that if Revis were to leave the Patriots, the next logical team to choose him would be the New York Jets. The cap space for New York is $51 million, so they have some room to let Revis on their team.

McCourty and Revis do not have any hard feelings towards each other. In an interview with SportsNet on Sunday night, McCourty said that he would like to see Revis return. He said, "After going through this the last two months, to say it's a business is kind of the easiest thing. This is crazy. He understands even more than me. I already know he's going to do what's best for him."
