As the month of December approaches movie buffs are looking forward to all the new DVD and Blu-Ray releases set to hit store shelves for the holiday season.

The first new releases will start off on Dec. 2, with titles such as 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes', which is about a world where humans and apes are survivors of a pandemic disease and forced into war, French-Israeli animation film 'The Congress', which tells the tale of an aging- out-of-work actress, and 'Kite', which is about a young woman tracking down her cop father's killer.

On Dec. 9, Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' comes out on DVD and Blu-Ray. The film tells the tale of a group of space criminals that needed to work together to save the galaxy; it stars Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana and more.

The following week, Dec. 16, will see the release of 2014 movies 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', which is about a group of mutated turtle warriors, and dystopian action thriller film 'The Maze Runner', which is about a group of boys and a girl trapped in a maze without any recollection of how and why they were there.

Dec. 23 will welcome the release of 'The Good Lie', starring Reese Witherspoon, Arnold Oceng, and Ger Duany, and 'The Trip to Italy', starring Steve Coogan, Rob Brydon, and Rosie Fellner.

The final Tuesday of the year, Dec. 30, will see the release of titles such as Denzel Washington's 'The Equalizer', Justin Long's 'Tusk', and Kyra Sedgwick's 'Reach Me'.

A lengthier list has appeared on DVDs Release Dates website, showing off more movies for each upcoming week of December. Interested consumers can look forward to several titles, such as 'Gutshot Straight', 'Dolphin Tale 2', 'The Devil's Hand', 'Pride', 'Stephen King's A Good Marriage', and more.

Several television series will also release their season-long episodes on DVD and Blu-Ray, such as 'Legend of Korra: Book Three - Change', 'The Simpsons: Season 17', 'Doctor Who: Season 8', 'Shameless: Season 4', to name a few.
