Music lovers and streaming services saw a new niche pop up in the industry with the launch of The Overflow, a Toronto-based service that offers a catalog of Christian music.

Christian music is generally unavailable or sometimes in limited supply on music streaming sites. It is a fact that The Overflow banks on catering to a usually-overlooked market with around 383,000 tracks of Christian and gospel songs.

The Overflow also offers curated content with offers listed by genre and artist, and it also offers half price on subscriptions. It charges only $4.99 per month compared to the usual price of $9.99.

The team of 7digital, which serves as the digital music platform of The Overflow, made the announcement on Monday on their official website. They introduced the service which contains Christian, Gospel, or Christian-related subgenres tracks.

Stephen Relph, the co-founder and chief executive officer of The Overflow, stated, "Christian music is an underserved and significant segment in the USA. It's also more than music, it's a lifestyle."

"The Christian community is quickly creating a buoyant market for digital services and there isn't yet a streaming music service that caters to their needs," added Simon Cole, the chief executive officer of 7digital.

Vickie Nauman of consultancy firm Cross Border Works, worked on The Overflow as an executive of 7digital. She stated that this is a good opportunity to serve other genres of music, according to Billboard.

"I feel like there are a lot of underserved music fans out there," she said, "There's country, Christian, metal, well-curated indie, classical, these are all segments of the music marketplace that I don't think will ever get their needs met by services that are firehoses of music."

The Overflow is available in the United States on iOS and a version for the Android and the web is reportedly coming soon.
