New CBS Series News: 'Supergirl' Show Officially Casts Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant

The highly anticipated "Supergirl" pilot is well under way as another regular cast member was announced on Monday. Calista Flockhart, most known for her role in "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ally McBeal" will star in the show as Cat Grant.

Lockhart hasn't done much since the show "Brothers and Sisters" ended in 2011. However, she appeared on Showtime's Web Therapy and DirecTV's Full Circle, according to Daily Mail.

Chuck Barney of Mercury News said, "Flockhart will be the fourth person to play Cat Grant on TV. The first was Tracy Scoggins in 'Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.' The character also appeared on 'Smallville' in two incarnations: one played by Emilie Ullerup, and another by Keri Lynn Pratt.

Cat Grant is a relentless boss of her business CatCo. She is also the boss of Kara Zor-El, who is most known as Supergirl in the DC comics.

This new Supergirl TV show follows Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, who has been hiding her super powers her whole life and tries to blend in with the normal crowd. Now at, 24-years-old, she is ready to embrace her powers to help the people of planet Earth.

According to Variety, the pilot will be produced by Berlanti, who works on hit TV series "Arrow" and "The Flash," and Ali Adler, who works on "Glee" and "The New Normal."

Other cast members for the show include Melissa Benoist, Mehcad Brooks, and Laura Benanti.

Benoist will play Kara Zor-El and is most known for her role as Marley Rose on "Glee." Brooks will play Zor-El's love interest Jimmy Olsen, and "Nashville" actress Benanti will play Supergirl's mother.

On that note CBS has yet to announce exactly when the show will air.
