New Asus Zenfone 2 News, Rumors: Advanced Zenfone 2, with Fingerprint Sensor, Launches in 2015?
Having released its latest flagship smartphone Zenfone 2 in the Asian market recently, Asus is now said to be working on an advanced version of the handset with bio-metric technology, which is generally seen in premium brands like Apple and Samsung.
According to IB Times, a local newspaper, China Times, has cited Asus chairman Johnny Shih claiming that the company is currently planning to integrate a fingerprint sensor into the Zenfone 2016 model, which will be named Asus Zenfone 3.
The report in the paper also stated that Asus is also working on a new Zenfone 2, which will have a "facelift" along with same security technology. This advanced Zenfone 2 is expected to be released in the second half of 2015.
Currently, Asus Zenfone 2 is being sold in five different variants in Taiwan. Hence, it will not be surprising to see the company coming out with a sixth variant of the handset sometime later this year.
It may be noted that Asus unveiled the Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) in Consumers Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in January. The handset sports a 5.5-inch full HD display and runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. It is powered by 64-bit class based 2.3GHz Intel Atom processor Z3580 along with PowerVR G6430 graphics engine. In addition, Asus Zenfone 2 comes with 4GB RAM and 16GB/ 32GB/ 64GB inbuilt memory and an impressive 3,000 mAh battery.
Zenfone 2 is also available in a 2GB RAM model and the specs of this device are more or less same as the 4GB model, except the processor type. It is powered by a 1.8GHz Quad Core Intel Atom Z3560 together with PowerVR G6430 GPU.
Apart from the ZE551ML variant, Asus also markets two other Zenfone 2 series devices - ZE550ML and ZE500CL - in Taiwan.
