New 'Arrow' Spin-Off Series News: CW in Talks about TV Show Based on The Atom
The CW is planning to release yet another television series within their 'Arrow' universe, and this time it's based on actor Brandon Routh's character, The Atom.
This is all very early, and at the moment is only being discussed. The character Brandon Routh plays, Ray Palmer, hasn't even yet been introduced as The Atom in the 'Arrow' series yet.
However. news about a spin-off came from an interview with the 'Arrow' executive producer, Greg Berlanti.
"We're in very early talks in a very general idea that we haven't gone deeper on yet," Berlanti told The Hollywood Reporter.
He continued to go on about how he felt on expanding the Arrow universe.
"We just love this universe and we want to keep growing it. We are trying to do more of what we enjoy, and it's true: the shows are so plentiful with characters and storylines. There's a region of the universe that we felt like we haven't dealt with yet that we'd like to deal with."
'The Flash' television series was the first spin-off they decided to adapt and it has enjoyed much success despite it not even finishing its first season yet. The Atom could possibly work as its own standalone show, but it's difficult to speculate as the superhero character himself hasn't yet appeared on 'Arrow'.
"In the DC Comics, The Atom can shrink down to a subatomic size, with 'Arrow' marking one of the only times the character has appeared in a live-action series," writes The Hollywood Reporter.
Routh has expressed his interest in continuing playing the character, however he notes how hesitant he was accepting another DC role after his experience with playing Superman in 'Superman Returns' in 2006.
He was only added to the cast this season and has already taken on the character as his own. As it stands, many of his fans believe he's a strong enough actor to carry his own series at this point.
