New Apple TV Upgrade News: Upcoming Model to Include Touchpad & Offer Streaming Service
Apple Inc. has hardly upgraded the Apple TV since its inception in 2007. It was based on simplicity - the philosophy that the founder of the Cupertino-based tech giant Steve Jobs established for all the products of the company years ago. But now, the company is working to launch a new Apple TV this summer with redesigned remote, reports The New York Times.
According to a report in Latin Post, this far, the design of Apple TV remote was one of the most simplistic on the market, having just three control buttons that regulated everything on the set top Internet streaming box. Basically, the Apple TV remote is a thin piece of metal with a smooth design offering it a futuristic look.
However, about eight years after its launch, Apple TV remote design will undergo a slight modification with a view to make it more up-to-date. The new look remote will be complete with a touchpad to scroll all over the screen. In addition, the device will come with two physical buttons, while the design will be somewhat thicker compared to the existing version.
The new Apple TV remote's thickness can somewhat be compared to the existing version of the Amazon Echo's remote, which is much substantial compared to the current Apple TV remote.
TV subscribers, who have been coughing up huge cable bills over the years and often feel cheated as they never use all the channels on their bundle, will now have a reason to be pleased about. Business Insider quotes a latest report in The New York Times as well as one in The Wall Street Journal saying that soon TV subscribers can avail these channels offer in smaller bundles by Apple TV.
According to these reports, this new Internet streaming package will be somewhat different from linear television. It is expected that several popular channels, including ABC and Fox, will sign on to this packages, which are expected to offer roughly 25 channels and the subscribers can expect to pay something between $30 and $40 every month.
In other words, it seeps that Apple is following the footsteps of Netflix, which is basically a video streaming buffet rather than a pay-per-view streaming service. While Netflix always does not offer the latest and hottest movies on the market, they do offer a free-for-all inexpensive viewing service. In fact, it seems that the consumers are in favor of convenient binge watching after all.
The existing Apple TV, however, offers an excellent selection from the iTunes platform. On the downside, they charge the subscribers every time they rent or buy a movie, thereby adding up the bills quickly.
