New Apple MacBook Retina News: Latest Apple MacBook Models Will Not Support Windows 7

If latest reports are to be believed, the new MacBook laptop models will not support Windows 7. In other words, users wanting to run Windows 7 on their MacBook laptops will need to either upgrade their devices to Windows 8 or use a third-party virtual machine.

Apple Insider reports that a support page document has listed Windows 8 as the sole Windows version that will be supported by Boot Camp for the most recent MacBook Air 11-inch and 13-inch models as well as the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina.

For the uninitiated, Boot Camp is Apple Inc. software that enables people using Mac to install as well as use Microsoft Windows on their Mac machines.

MacRumors reports that Apple began doing away with support for Windows 7 when the Cupertino-based tech giant released the Mac Pro 2014 on sale. Similarly, Apple also eliminated support to Windows XP and Vista when it launched the second generation MacBook Air in 2010.

Windows 7 was launched in 2009 and it was followed by Windows 8 in 2012. Despite the availability of the latest Windows version, users have preferred the use of Windows 7. In fact, data made available by NetMarketShare shows that Windows 7 is the most extensively used Windows-based OS.

Although Apple released several updates for Windows 8, many Windows users did not upgrade their operating system. In fact, companies as well as professional users have decided to avoid upgrading to Windows 8, mainly owing to its interface changes.

Users, who have been insisting on continuing with Windows 7 on their MacBooks, will henceforth require using a third-party virtualization program. They can choose between Parallels Desktop 10 and VMWare Fusion 7, which will offer support to Windows 7 on Apple's latest OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

On that note, Microsoft is scheduled to release Windows 10 later this year.
