'Legend of Zelda' Netflix Series News, Rumors: New Live Action TV Show to Feature Link?
Netflix and Nintendo have reportedly been in talks about developing a live action 'Legend of Zelda' television show.
"The video streaming service is in the early stages of developing a live action series based on 'Zelda', about an ordinary boy named Link who must rescue a princess named Zelda and save a fantasy world called Hyrule, said a person familiar with the matter," writes Wall Street Journal.
This is huge new for fans as this would be the first ever live action appearance of the popular video game franchise for the big or small screen.
As it is in fairly early development, there hasn't been much talk on the premise or plot, but it is currently being compared to HBO's 'Game of Thrones' by Netflix. This however will most likely be family-oriented as the 'Legend of Zelda' games are marketed to all ages.
Nintendo rarely adapts their intellectual property outside of their video games, but fans have awaited some kind of adaptation for the popular hero.
"Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has allowed few adaptations over the years. An animated 'Legend of Zelda' series ran for just one season in 1989. A 1993 movie based on Nintendo's 'Super Mario Bros'. was an infamous bomb," writes Wall Street Journal.
Nothing has been confirmed yet as the show hasn't picked up a writer. Nintendo has refused to comment on the project as it could be shut down at anytime.
If the project does come into fruition, it could mean a lot for the state of Netflix's original content. The company has been really proactive with making their own series and there is no doubt that a live action 'Legend of Zelda' show would be one of their most popular programs.
