'Need For Speed' New Game News: Online Connection Required to Play New NFS Title

The subject of having digital rights management, all the time has been a quite controversial subject in the gaming world.

In order to play this kind of game, players must remain linked to a server through an Internet connection.

Game developers see it as a good way to stop piracy of software, as well as roll out updates, but many gamers find it to be a hassle, especially if the digital rights management network goes down and they become locked out completely.

In the past, game developers such as Blizzard have been able to use this technique effectively in games like Starcraft II and Diablo III.

Meanwhile, other developers, like Electronic Arts, have not done so well with digital rights management, their SimCity reboot being a prime example of this.

However, after distancing themselves from using this technology several years ago, Electronic Arts has decided that the upcoming relaunch of Need for Speed, the popular racing game, will need an online connection to play.

This news comes from the official Need for Speed Twitter account, following user @DeanRheims positing the idea of the game using always on digital rights management.

The Twitter account also specified that there would be a single player and multiplayer mode, and that being connected will give gamers the ability to share their narrative experience with friend.

Yet, it has not been confirmed whether the game will be playable offline at all.

Many players are not happy with this, thinking back to the poor results of SimCity.

Some can't help but think that this move is a mistake.

Need for Speed will be released later this year for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
