'NCIS' Season 13 Spoilers: Agent Gibbs Returns, Bigger Role Likely for Special Agent DiNozzo

For many dedicated fans of 'NCIS,' Season 13 of the long-running police procedural drama television series on CBS, is developing as the best of both worlds.

Quoting reports, Latin Post states that in 'NCIS' Season 13, which returns this fall, fans will not only see longtime star Mark Harmon returning to the show as Agent Jethro Gibbs, but even rising star Michael Weatherly is almost certain to carve out a bigger role for himself in the upcoming season.

Meanwhile, a report in The Hollywood Reporter states that recently Harmon signed on for another season, while show-runner Gary Glasberg was somewhat unclear regarding what would be his fate in the show considering the fact that he suffered no less than two gunshot wounds fired by Luke Harris while the team was in Iraq trailing a terrorist group towards the end of Season 12.

Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Glasberg emphasized that irrespective of what happens with Gibbs "the team will be there for each other as they go through the long-term and psychological effects of what happened."

In earlier interviews, Glasberg had indicated that Weatherly's character Senior Special Agent Tony DiNozzo, already second in command of Gibbs, could be prepared to assume the controls, at least for the duration while Gibbs is recuperating.

In 'NCIS' Season 12, fans have seen Agent Tony DiNozzo in contact with the head of The Calling, Daniel Budd (Giles Matthey). Therefore, it would not be surprising if DiNozzo would eventually be looked to as well as counted on as the absolute leader.

'NCIS' Season 13 is scheduled to premiere on Sept. 22 on CBS, while Season 12 is currently available in CBS All Access.
