NBC TV 2015 Schedule News: 'American Odyssey' Cancelled After Season One

NBC has cancelled the drama, American Odyssey after just one season; the network made the announcement last week on Tuesday.

The ax fell for the show just two days after it aired its season finale, which earned just a 0.4 among adults ages eighteen to forty nine, after repeated disappointing ratings.

The series focused on Army Sergeant Odelle Ballard, who was played by Anna Friel, best known for her role in the also short lives, Pushing Daisies.

In the show, Ballard struggles to return home after uncovering a dangerous government conspiracy during a raid of the west African Republic of Mali.

The drama also starred Peter Facinelli as a corporate lawyer, Jake Robinson as a disrespected political activist and Treat Williams as Colonel Stephen Glen.

Before the show premiered in April, Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster, its showrunners, described it as a change from the usual Hollywood terrorism story that has been told for the past 15 years.

Armus stated that they are trying to tell a story of hope in an interview with The Wrap. "You're an ordinary person, you don't have any sort of license or a gun or anything particular that makes you powerful, but you can make a difference, he added.

After the show's cancellation was announced, Williams shared a tweet expressing his thanks for his experience on the show.

"American Odyssey has been a great experience," wrote Williams. "Thank you Peter, Adam, Kay and a lovely cast for a great season. Thank you NBC for the gig."

Some fans are upset about the network's decisions, and feel the show should have been given a chance.
