NBC ‘Parks and Recreation’ Final Season 7 Premiere Date, Spoilers News: Bittersweet Goodbye to Folks at Pawnee
After airing for six seasons, the hit NBC series 'Parks and Recreation' will finally begin airing its last and final season on Tuesday, January 13 at 8 pm, which is two days before the show's lead star, Amy Poehler, hosts the Golden Globes with pal Tina Fey.
After its premiere, the small-town government comedy will be airing back-to-back episodes until it reaches its hour-long finale six weeks later on Tuesday, February 24, following the 'The Voice'.
In a statement released by NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt, he said that Poehler, Mike Schur and the rest of the cast of the series as well as the producers and crew have created "one of the best comedies of all time."
"In an effort to give it the send-off it deserves, we wanted to 'eventize' the final season to maximize the impact of these episodes, which really do take the show to a new level. The highly-anticipated one-hour finale will air behind 'The Voice' in order to lead the largest audience possible into what promises to be a very special hour of television," Greenblatt added.
At the end of the sixth season of the show, it jumps to the year 2017 where Poehler's character, Leslie, and Ben, played by Adam Scott, are parents of triplets.
Last May, 'Parks and Recreation' showrunner Michael Schur told EW, that everyone felt like the show should "go out on a high note."
He said, "We don't want to overstay our welcome. We did this big creative leap at the end of last year and now we get to pursue that in a fun way for half the year and then we'll wave goodbye and exit stage left."
Meanwhile, NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke said that everyone, from viewers to producers, fell in love with the show, and after seven amazing seasons, "saying goodbye to the folks at Pawnee will be bittersweet."
