NBC Fall TV Schedule 2015 News: 'Heartbreaker' Premiere Pushed Back Due to Star's Pregnancy
NBC is making final changes to its fall schedule, and this includes replacing Heartbreaker, a new medical drama, with another, Chicago Med.
Last month, the network announced that the fall 2015 Tuesday lineup would consist of The Voice, Heartbreaker, and Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, which would be followed by Chicago Fire in November, when Best Time Ever ends for the season.
Chicago Med started off as a planned spinoff episode of the last season of Chicago Fire, and was slated for a midseason launch.
However, NBC has decided that it will debut in September, following The Voice. From November, this will form a 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm Chicago block, which will include the franchise's mothership series, Chicago Fire.
This scheduling change is a result of the pregnancy of Melissa George, the star of Heartbreaker who is expecting her second child.
Both Heartbreaker and Chicago Med will begin production midsummer, but Heartbreaker will go on hiatus to take George's pregnancy into consideration.
The show is based on the life of Dr. Kathy Magliato, featuring George's Dr. Alex Panttiere as an outspoken heart transplant surgeon.
George's character is in almost every scene of the show, so it is impossible to film around her.
Heartbreaker is also recasting one of its male leads. The new scheduling information for the show will be announced soon.
Chicago Med from Dick Wolf, is preparing for an earlier start of production. The series just hired a showrunner, Andrew Dettmann, and a new series regular, Colin Donnell.
This will give Wolf four series on the schedule, the three Chicago dramas, and Law & Order: SVU.
