NBA Trade News 2015: Stars Stay Put as Butler, Green and Millsap Agree to Deals

With the salary cap jumping in the next two years, it was expected to be a busy free agency period. It was also surmised that most of the bigger name stars would stay put.

Jimmy Butler agreed to a five-year $95 million deal to stay with the Chicago Bulls, a league source told Yahoo Sports. As noted by Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, back in October, the 25-year-old rejected the Bulls' offer of a four-year $44 million contract extension. Butler bet right as he had a breakout season that saw him average 20 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists on his way to being named to his first All-Star appearance and winning the NBA's Most Improved Player award.

Draymond Green of the world champion Golden State Warriors also decided to stay put, reportedly agreeing to a five-year deal worth close to $85 million, according to Yahoo Sports. Like Butler, Green was a restricted free agent, which meant their teams could match any offer made for them.

"I'm excited, thankful, and grateful to be back in the Bay," Green said in a text message to Yahoo Sports.

Green averaged career highs across the board this past season, norming 11.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists in 31.5 minutes per game for the champions. He also proved his versatility in the playoffs, guarding Anthony Davis, Marc Gasol, Zach Randolph, James Harden, and LeBron James at some point during their playoff run.

In Atlanta, All-Star Paul Millsap has decided to stay with the Hawks after briefly flirting with the Orlando Magic, reportedly agreeing to a three-year deal worth $58 million, with a player option after the second season.

"Blessed and Excited to be back with the @ATLHawks!!! Great things ahead. Thank you all for your support," Millsap wrote on Twitter.

Millsap was reportedly offered a four-year max deal by the Magic. He instead opted for a three-year deal that gives him an option to enter free agency in the summer of 2016 when the salary cap rises yet again.
