NBA 2015 News: Timberwolves Buyout Former No. 1 Overall Pick Bennett; Jabari Parker Expected to be at Camp

2013 No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett and the Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement on a contract buyout, Yahoo Sports reports. As noted by the report, Bennett has to clear the waivers in the next 48 hours to become an unrestricted free agent.

Yahoo Sports points out that four teams have the salary cap space or trade exception necessary to absorb the Canadian's $5.8 million contract, a list that includes his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers, Portland Trail Blazers and the Utah Jazz.

According to the report, Bennett's camp is hopeful that no team claims him on the waivers, which will give the forward the opportunity to pick his next destination as a free agent. Bennett has not been able to find his mark in his two years in the league and has expressed the desire to pursue his career elsewhere.

Bennett might be keen on joining the Blazers, who are not only $13 million below the minimum salary threshold, but also employ two Blazer coaches, Jay Triano and David Vanterpool, whom Bennett played for this past summer on the FIBA Americas bronze medal-winning Canadian national team.

In 57 games for the Timberwolves last season, Bennett averaged 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds in just 15.7 minutes per game.

Meanwhile, in Milwaukee, the 2014 second overall pick, Jabari Parker, is expected to be active at the start of training camp. The Bucks, though, has said it will proceed cautiously with their young talent who is recovering from a torn ACL.

"We're not going to rush him back," Bucks coach Jason Kidd said. "This is a bigger picture."

Buck general manager echoed his coach saying, "If we think he can play 30 minutes, we'll probably play him 15. Wherever he might be, we're always going to be cautious with him."

Parker played 25 games in his rookie season before tearing his left ACL. During that time, he averaged 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
