NBA Finals 2015 News: Klay Thompson Expected to Play in Game 1, Kyrie Irving Still Questionable

All eyes may be on two-time champion LeBron James and reigning League MVP Stephen Curry when the ball goes up Thursday for the Game of the NBA Finals, but the bigger storylines heading into the series concerns the health of their respective sidekicks.

The Cleveland Cavaliers' Kyrie Irving, who has been dealing with injuries to his knee and foot, was able to practice Sunday, but remains questionable for Game 1.

"We're hoping to help him to come into the series in the best possible way," Cavs coach David Blatt was quoted in the Akron-Beacon Journal. "He's still not where he was prior to his foot and knee issues. Slowly but surely he's making progress."

The All-Star guard missed two games in the Cavs Eastern Conference Finals matchup with the Atlanta Hawks. He returned to play in their Game 4 series-clinching win, finishing with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists in just 22 minutes of action.

Irving had a strong start to his first postseason appearance, but has obviously been hampered by injuries. He has only eclipsed the 20-point mark once in his last six playoff games. He started the postseason scoring 20 points or more five times in the Cavs first six games, including a couple of 20-point performances.

On the other side, Klay Thompson is expected to be ready when the Finals series begins. According to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, Thompson feels good and is no longer having headaches.

The All-Star guard was diagnosed with a concussion two days after taking a knee to the side of the head in the Warriors' Game 5 win against the Houston Rockets. He still has to pass the NBA concussion protocol before he is cleared to return to action.

In 15 games this postseason, Thompson is averaging 19.7 points and 3.7 rebounds.
