NBA 2K14 Next-Gen Roster Update Allows Greg Oden to Play as Himself with His Return to Basketball
In perhaps a feel good story for a once promising NBA talent, former 1st round draft pick Greg Oden is now able to play as himself in NBA Live 2K14.
Oden had not appeared in an NBA game for nearly three years when he signed with the Miami Heat in August 2013. On Jan. 15 he finally got into a game for the defending NBA champions, and because of this, was added to a roster update for NBA 2K14.
"#NBA2K14 Roster Update went live overnight, incl. Greg Oden's return, Hedo Turkoglu signing & @RajonRondo's return from injury among changes," Tweeted 2K employee Ronnie Singh.
Oden was drafted ahead of Kevin Durant in 2007 by the Portland Trailblazers. A dominant center in college, the ballplayer was forced to miss his rookie season due to a knee surgery. After starting his delayed rookie year the following season, he played parts of two seasons each ending with some sort of knee surgery.
Finally after several surgeries on both knees and growing frustration from the team that skipped out on one of the best players in the NBA for him, Oden's career with the Trailblazers was done. Over the last three seasons Oden has stayed in shape and let his knees and body recover. Only 26-years-old, he decided to give it another go around.
So far in three games, the seven footer is averaging 6 Minutes, 1 Rebound, and 3 Points per game. His career averages in his 82 games for the Trailblazers are around 7 Rebounds, 1.4 Blocks, and 9.2 Points.
NBA 2K14 was released on Oct. 1 for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. It arrived for the PS4 on Nov. 15 and the Xbox One on Nov. 22.
