NBA 2015 News: Spurs' Leonard & Warriors' Green Lead NBA All-Defensive Team

The NBA's 2014-2015 Defensive Player of the Year was the leading vote-getter for this season's All-Defensive first team. Kawhi Leonard of the San Antonio Spurs received 116 first team votes, and a total of 242 points from a panel of 129 writers and broadcasters in North America. Leonard, who emerged as the league's best perimeter defender led the league in steals this season averaging 2.3 per game.

The Los Angeles Clippers' Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan also made the first team, along with Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies' Tony Allen. Green, who was a leading contender for Defensive Player of the Year, finished second in voting with 229 points, and 107 first team votes.

Paul finished fifth in steals for the season, and has long been regarded as one of the best defensive point guards in the league. His teammate Jordan had a breakout season defensively, leading the league in rebounds with 15 per game, and finishing fifth in blocks.

The All-defensive second team was comprised of New Orleans Pelicans' superstar Anthony Davis; the league's Most Improved Player, Jimmy Butler from the Chicago Bulls, Green's frontcourt mate Andrew Bogut, the Washington Wizards' John Wall, and the Spurs ageless wonder, Tim Duncan.

Green and Bogut are the only players from the All-Defensive teams playing in the playoffs. The Warriors escaped with a 100-106 Game 1 win over the Houston Rockets, who might have to go into Game 2 without their own defensive center Dwight Howard who suffered a sprained left knee in the game.

Throughout these playoffs, Green has virtually defended every position, switching out on smaller guards on pick and rolls, and banging with the like of Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol in the paint.

The Warriors and the Rockets meet again for Game 2 Thursday, May 21 at 9:00 pm ET.
