NBA 2015 News: Commissioner Adam Silver Wants to Expand All-Star Rosters to 13-15 Players

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recently said he favors expanding the NBA All-Star rosters from their current limit of 12 players per team.

Silver appeared on "NBA Lockdown: Insiders" and said he intends to broach the subject in the near future with new Players Association executive director Michele Roberts, according to an ESPN report.

The commissioner, who just entered the second year of his term at the helm of the league, had to make the decision on whom to replace injured Kobe Bryant on the Western Conference squad.

Silver ultimately went with the Sacramento Kings' DeMarcus Cousins, with Portland Trail Blazers' guard Damian Lillard emerging as one of the game's biggest snubs.

Silver pointed to that decision as what he remembers most from his first year as commissioner, with last Sunday marking his first year since replacing David Stern.

"I wish I had another slot for Damian because I think he's deserving of being an All-Star as well," he said.

Silver also pointed out to the fact that many of the league's players have preset bonuses in their contracts for making the All-Star team.

"I think that's an issue we'll end up discussing with the Players Association. It has a direct impact on many of the players' bonuses," Silver said when asked about expanding team rosters to 13 or even 15.

The ESPN report also mentions that Silver has explained his decision to Lillard and the star guard's agent, Aaron Goodwin.

"He was disappointed but he understands. When I say he understands, he doesn't agree with me, but he's been in this league for a while now, and he understands that's how things go," the commissioner said.

After learning of the decision, Lillard has reportedly decided to skip on defending the Skills Challenge title he won last year.

The 2015 NBA All-Star Weekend is set for February 13-15 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
