NBA 2015 News: Cleveland Cavaliers Negotiate Deal with Richard Jefferson
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been making every attempt to regain depth on their team, which was crippled by several injuries once they began to take part in the NBA Finals.
David Griffin and Dan Gilbert tried their best to keep the core of the team together during this offseason.
So far, they have added Mo Williams to the team as the backup point guard. They are hoping to bring the same team back for next year with that touch of extra depth in order to go all out and make a dash for the title.
Shawn Marion is retiring and J.R. Smith remains unsigned, so the Cavaliers are trying to add some veteran leadership on the wings, according to reports.
Marc Stein of ESPN.com says that Richard Jefferson is working on negotiating a deal with the Cavs even though everyone expected him to sign with the Dallas Mavericks again.
This will give the team some leverage to bargain with Smith, who is not really in high demand this summer.
Marion did not do much for the Cavs last season in terms of veteran wings, but Jefferson did well with Dallas.
He only played an average of 16.8 minutes per game, but he made 42.6 percent of his 3 point shots. Also, since the beginning of the 2010 to 2011 season, he has made 42.3 percent of his 1,032 attempted shots from beyond the arc.
Whether or not Smith returns to the Cavs, Jefferson will make a welcome addition to the team.
In fact, there is not pressure on the team to resign Smith, since they have already resigned Iman Shumpert, have Matthew Dellavedova, and brought Williams and Jefferson on.
