Natalie Portman News: Actress Encourages Harvard Students in Motivational Speech on Class Day
Actress Natalie Portman not only has a degree in Education at one of the most prestigious schools, Harvard University, but apparently the award winning actress also has a gift in speaking publicly and inspiring her co-Harvard students to strive harder for success.
Portman was invited to be a guest speaker at one of Harvard's Class Days and she might just have been phenomenal once again in tickling the minds of the students in achieving greater heights than what the settle for as she recalled her moments of taking risks and finally being rewarded for a job well done.
Apparently, Portman wasn't that good of a dancer but her role in Black Swan, which of course required her to learn how to do ballet and even act splendidly for her role gained her an Oscar win. So Portman told the story of how she was absolutely unprepared but still tried and took the risk.
It was indeed a great story as she ended up even marrying her ballet choreographer Benjamin Millepied and even having a child with him.
"The point is, if I had known my own limitations, I never would have taken the risk. And the risk led to one of my greatest personal and professional achievements," she said. The actress continued on and encouraged the students to be confident to accept what they don't know.
"Make use of the fact that you don't doubt yourself too much right now because, as we get older, we get more realistic," she continued adding, "Accept your lack of knowledge and use it as your asset."
Portman continues to take risks even in that speech she was doing at that time as she recalled the story when she was invited to speak saying, "I have to admit, primarily because I can't deny it-as it was leaked in the Wikileaks release of the Sony hack-that when I was invited I replied, and I directly quote my own email, 'Wow, this is so nice! I'm going to need some funny ghost writers. Any ideas?'" she said.
"This initial response, now blessedly public, was from the knowledge that at my Class Day, we were lucky enough to have Will Ferrell as Class Day speaker, and that many of us, hungover or even freshly high, mainly wanted to laugh," she added.
