'Nashville' Season 5 News, Cast: Will Chase, Aubrey Exit Show?
Two of the mainstays of the "Nashville" series are departing the show despite its revival by CMT.
Based on reports, not all members of the "Nashville" cast are moving to the CMT network to become part of season 5. The two series regulars are Will Chase who played Like Wheeler, Rayna's ex-fiancé, and Aubrey Peeples who played Layla Grant. Both the actors and Lionsgate TV declined to comment on their exits.
The unexpected news hit fans, as both characters did not have much to do throughout season 4. Both Luke and Layla's storylines already seemed done when the previous season came to a close. It can be remembered that Luke, whose involvement in the series started fizzling out in season 3, decided to get back together with his former wife after defending Will from homophobic backlash. On the other hand, Layla got punished after Avery discovered her plan against Juliette. For fans, this meant the end of her storyline.
Despite the two actors' exits, all the other major stars of the show are expected to appear in the upcoming season since they are still under long-term contract for the show. These stars include Connie Britton, Charles Esten and Hayden Panettiere.
The "Nashville" season 4 ended with a cliffhanger and left the fate of Juliette hanging. Some fans speculate that the direction may have been to accommodate Panettiere's struggle with postpartum depression. As of this time, only Chase and Aubrey have confirmed to leave the show.
"Nashville" season 5 is expected to premiere on CMT in fall.
