'Narcos' News: Series Renewed For Season 3, Season 4 Despite The Death of Pablo Escobar?
"Narcos" will continue for a season 3 and season 4 despite the death of Pablo Escobar.
The season 2 finale may have seen the demise of the notorious drug kingpin, but that does not mean the end of the war on drugs. This week, Netflix has officially announced the renewal of the addictive drug trafficking drama for another two seasons.
On Friday, Netflix unveiled the second season of the series. The final scene showed DEA agent Javier Peña shifting his attention to the Cali Cartel, another Colombian gang. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "Narcos" executive producer Eric Newman said the succeeding seasons will tell the untold stories left in Colombia following Escobar's death.
"I think that there's a lot of story left to be told in Colombia," he said.
"This show has always been about cocaine. We purposely did not call the show 'Pablo Escobar' or 'Medellin.' If somebody wants another season of the show, we would sit down and draw from the pretty massive amount of real estate and research that we've done and do something kind of cool," he added.
Newman emphasized that the series was ultimately never about Escobar, but about the war on drugs. Given that, "Narcos" season 3 is expected to follow the track of those who filled his shoe in the drug trafficking business following his death.
Jose Padilha and Eric Newman will continue to serve as the executive producers of the series.
"Narcos" seasons 1 and 2 are currently available on Netflix, while season 3 will premiere in 2017.
