‘Mythbusters’ Series Finale News: Popular Discovery Channel Show to End After 14 Seasons
The time has finally come for one of television's most popular shows to come to its end after a long run on the Discovery Channel. That's right, 'Mythbusters' is finishing up the series after 14 season and show hosts Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman had some choice words to say about that.
The reality series stands as one of the longest running shows which will total at a whopping 248 episodes and 2,950 myth busting experiments.
While it's sad news to hear that 'Mythbusters' will no longer be showcasing new and exciting experiments, fans will at least get the chance to see the series go out with a bang. According to an interview with EW, Savage stated "It was my greatest fear that Mythbusters would just stop and we wouldn't be able to do proper final episodes."
He went on to add, "So whether it's myths about human behavior or car stories or explosion stories, we tried to find the most awesome example of each category and build on our past history."
Both stars of the show were questioned in separate interviews and had some surprisingly polar opinions on the show's closing.
When asked about their immediate reaction to the breaking news, Savage stated, "Every show has its bell curve. We're cognizant of our ratings. It's not like they were terrible but we could see them changing. Three or four years ago we started wondering more if we were going to be renewed. It's not like it's unexpected."
He added, "We've been filming the last season this year and we get to send it off. We get to pay homage to this thing that's changed our lives."
Jamie Hyneman was a little more blunt about the 'Mythbusters' ended, but seems to feel he saw it coming. He said, "We're executive producers on the show and have been for a while. So we were part of that decision. We felt like we've had really strong material for the whole run. It's been 14 years and it's just time. We want to go out on a strong point."
Last but not least, with regards to spoilers for what fans of the show can expect in its final episodes, Hyneman said to EW, "There's an emphasis on looking back, we could do a PhD dissertation on the things we're tackling. We've tried to go as deeply as possible into the things we're doing, and gave them the respect and care they deserve."
