‘Mr. Robot' Season 2 Spoilers, News: New Installment will be Darker, Says Series Creator
Fans of USA's newest 'Mr. Robot' series were happy to learn that the series has been renewed for a second season following the success of the first. While the release date for the next season has not yet been slated, rumors and spoilers are about and they're saying the next season is going to be much darker.
The series, created by Sam Esmail, is known for its dark content already; so many fans were left wondering if the show can possibly get any darker. For those that may not know, the series stars Rami Malek as Elliot, who's a drug-addicted, and socially awkward programming whiz that works a day job at a cyber-security firm. Soon he's lured into a shady hacking collective by none other than Mr. Robot.
On a panel for Comic Con in New York Esmail said, "If you're making it about the hacking, then you've made a grave mistake." He appeared with cast members Rami Malek, Christian Slater, Portia Doubleday and Carly Chaikin.
He went on to say "One of the things that we always knew making this show, it was not about the hacking, it was about the characters. That goes for anything -- when you're making a medical drama, a lawyer [show] -- I don't know half the stuff they're saying on 'Law and Order.' But if it's about the people, you get the emotional beats, that's the most important part of it."
Additionally, he noted that "if you show a person typing it's going to get boring really quickly, and so we have to force these cheesy graphics and CGI because audiences are too stupid."
Beyond that, he promised that the series was going to get much darker in the new episodes. While some fans may not think that is possible, they'd be wise to take his word for it. He closed off his interview by saying he's "going to have to throw some jokes in," because it may be too dark to handle.
