‘Mozart In The Jungle’ Season 2 Cast: Lola Kirke, Saffron Burrows, Bernadette Peters Talk Their Characters’ Story, Paul Weitz Talks Classical Music

Lola Kirke, Saffron Burrows, and Bernadette Peters voiced their thoughts on their character's story while Paul Weitz talked about classic music in Amazon's "Mozart in the Jungle" season 2.

Kirke plays Hailey in Amazon's comedy musical drama. In her interview with Inverse, Kirke gazed at the promo poster behind her and said that the crew managed to make the oboe look very sensual in it and mentioned that she could not wait to see what people on the subway draw.

"Mozart in the Jungle" season 2 will also see a more stable Hailey in it. In fact, the character is going to deepen her relationship with Gael Garcia Bernal's Rodrigo. In the same interview, Kirke said that Hailey obviously really cared for Rodrigo, describing it as "Moulin Rouge."

Peters and Burrow's characters are also set to show struggle for position in the orchestra in "Mozart in the Jungle" season 2.

Peters' Gloria, who is the administrative head, is now facing challenges about her throne. In the same interview, she said that people were trying to bump her off the board. The actress added that she had been fighting to be taken seriously as a woman, to run hr business, and to win.

Burrow's Cynthia, the head cellist and orchestra labor representative, is set to defend the symphony's contracts while avoiding some old and new conflicts of interest. Despite her character's story arc, Burrow viewed being part of "Mozart in the Jungle" an unusual experience. In the same interview, she said it felt more like a theater company.

In other news, Jason Schwartzman's character, classical music podcaster Bradford Sharpe, asked at Malcolm McDowell's Thomas Pembridge, a former conductor of the fictional New York Symphony, if classical music was dead.

Co-creator Paul Weitz clarifies the answer to the question. In his interview with The Huffington Post, Weitz said that one thing that the show did was it demystified the concept of a bunch of "fuddy-duddies" who were worshipping the dead relics of bygone art.

Weitz added that professional classical musicians, such as Dudamel, had approached their teams wanting to be involved with the show to reach the younger audience.

Released in late 2013, "Mozart in the Jungle" is inspired by elements of hedonism and classical music in New York City. It follows oboist Blair Tindall's memoir of her professional career in New York, affiliated with high-profile ensembles like the New York Philharmonic and the orchestras of several broadway shows.

"Mozart in the Jungle" season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime on Dec. 30.
