The year 2014 has witnessed a multitude of new smartphones from all major manufacturers, including Apple, Google, Motorola, BlackBerry, Samsung, LG and the Taiwanese company HTC.
While the Google Nexus 5 has been on the market for quite some time now, Motorola launched its latest flagship smartphone Moto X (2nd Gen) very recently. Though they offer different experiences and specs, both these devices belong in the mid-range price pool.
Below is a comparison of the features, specs, and prices of Motorola Moto X 2 and Google Nexus 5 to help customers make the right choice.
Display
Google Nexus 5 comes with a 4.95-inch display size along with 1080 x 1920 resolution together with 445 ppi pixel density. This display type is True HD IPS with 16M colors. On the other hand, Moto X (2nd Gen) comes with a 5.2-inch of display size with 1080 x 1920 pixels. The pixel density of Moto X is 441ppi. The screens of both these devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Processor
The new Moto X is powered by Snapdragon 801 quad-core processors with Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU and GPU is Adreno 330, while the Nexus 5 is powered by a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor with Quad-core 2.3 GHz Krait 400 CPU and GPU is Adreno 330. Both these devices have 2GB RAM.
Operating System
The Moto X and Google Nexus 5 both have the latest Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and also run on stock Android. More precisely, Google Nexus 5 runs on Andoid v4.4 KitKat, while the Moto X runs on operating system Android v4.4.4 KitKat.
Storage
Both the Google Nexus 5 and the Moto X (2nd Gen) have an internal storage of 16 GB or 32GB, but come without a microSD card slot.
Camera
The Google Nexus 5 comes with an 8 MP primary camera including a number of features such as optical image stabilization, autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, photo sphere, HDR, dual recording and it allows video recording of 1080p at 30 fps. The secondary camera of the Nexus 5 is 1.3 MP.
On the other hand, the Moto X (2nd Gen) has a 13 MP rear facing camera with dual LED flash enabling users to record 2160p videos at 30 fps. The secondary camera of Moto X is 2 MP with the ability to record 1080p HD video.

The Moto X and the Google Nexus 5 both have 2,300mAh battery.
Price
The Google Nexus 5 is retailed for around $450, while the price of the Moto X (2 nd Gen) is around $459 for the 32 GB model.
