Most-Pirated TV Shows News: ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Orange is the New Black’, ‘The Walking Dead’ Top the List

The recently aired finale of 'Game of Thrones' Season 5 changed the benchmark for piracy when it shattered its own track of being the most pirated TV show. Currently, the recently released 'Orange is the new Black' Season 3 is widely being downloaded and streamed illegally.

According to a report in IB Times, currently Netflix is enduring an ordeal that HBO has already only a few months ago. The on-demand Internet streaming media provider is having a tough time battling piracy of its hugely popular show "Orange is The New Black."

When one searches for 'Orange is the New Black' Season 3, he/ she will come across more than five websites, each of them claiming that they have the updated version of Netflix's original comedy-drama series. Paradoxically, they will not see the Netflix link in the search result.

In addition to 'Game of Thrones' and 'Orange is the New Black,' there are several other TV shows that have remained viewers' favorites and, unsurprisingly, have been pirated widely.

A good example of this is 'The Walking Dead,' which is a gritty television drama based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, portraying life in the weeks and months after a zombie apocalypse. The storyline of this television drama follows Sheriff's Deputy Rick Grimes, who leads a group of survivors in a world swamped by zombies.

Believe it or not, as many as 1.29 million individual Internet addresses downloaded the midseason premiere episode of 'The Walking Dead' in February this year, just within 20 hours of airing.

Similarly, there are reports that several episodes of 'Marvel's Daredevil,' the street-hero series released by Netflix 10 April this year was downloaded by about 2.1 million individual users across the globe via torrent networks.

On the other hand, 'The Big Bang Theory,' the popular CBS comedy series revolving around Mensa-fied best friends and roommates Leonard and Sheldon is certainly among the most-watched comedy on television and the show has mostly been on and off the most-pirated shows' list. In 2013, this show was pirated 3.4 million times and watched live by a whopping 20.44 million viewers.

Another television show that has always lured viewers to torrent is The CW's 'Arrow,' which tells the story of a spoiled billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who goes missing and is presumed dead when his yacht is lost at sea. However, five years later, he returns a changed man who is determined to clean up the city as a hooded vigilante armed with a bow.

Even 'The Vampire Diaries,' the popular fantasy drama about a teenage girl torn between two vampire brothers on The CW, was the fifth most-pirated show in 2014 with about 23 million individuals downloading it via torrent worldwide.

The list of most-pirated shows for 2014 also includes other series like 'Supernatural,' 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,' 'How I Met Your Mother,' 'Homeland,' 'Suits,' and 'The Blacklist.'
