MMA Champ Frank Mir Next Fight News: Former UFC Champ Wants Match Against Brock Lesnar
Frank Mir pondered deeply to step away from the MMA game following four straight losses, and being winless since 2011. But after needing just 1:40 in the first round to dispose of Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva, he now wants one of the biggest names in UFC Heavyweight division history"”Brock Lesnar.
"I think it would be a huge fight," said the former interim Heavyweight champion at UFC Fight Night's post-fight presser, "I think it would be something that would catapult my name even higher up. A rubber match between the two of us would be a phenomenal fight.
Lesnar, of course, has not announced his plans for a return to the Octagon. The former UFC Heavyweight champion is still under contract with the WWE until March.
Mir moved like his old self, knocking "Bigfoot" down with a combination of punches, which eventually led to a ground and pound finish"”his first since December 2011, when he finished Antonio Nogueira with a kimura.
MMA Weekly reports that Mir credits taking time away from the sport to let his body rest and heal. During the break, he took to yoga and gymnastics to maintain his physical fitness.
Mir shared, "I went to yoga with my wife. I did it for about 10 minutes and I couldn't even hold downward facing dog because there was so many aches and pains. I'm sitting there looking at all these soccer moms kicking my butt. I'm like, you know, my overall fitness kind of sucks right now."
Following his immersion into yoga, the report says Mir began to work on his boxing, and immediately noticed an improvement in his physical well being.
His opponent must have noticed too, with the main event held to under two minutes before Mir finished him off.
"To keep a fight with Lesnar anywhere in the works, I had to get a win tonight, Mir said" adding, "I really just kept it in the back of my mind. It's not something like, "I'm gonna win this to fight Brock.' I was like, "Man, I need to win this so I can keep my job or my wife's not going to let me go to the gym anymore."
