MMA 2015 News: Anthony Pettis Out of UFC on FOX 16, Nate Diaz Weighs in on Injuries
Apart from his loss at UFC 185 against Rafael dos Anjos that cost him his UFC title, injuries have been the only other thing that have kept Anthony Pettis in check. And as reported by Fox Sports 1 recently, he is out with an injury yet again forcing him out of UFC on FOX 16 on July 25 in Chicago.
Taking his place against Myles Jury will be Brazilian Edson Barboza, but as UFC senior vice president of public relations Dave Sholler told MMAFighting, that fight would no longer be the co-headliner of the event. Instead, the UFC has scheduled a women's bantamweight title eliminator between Miesha Tate and Jessica Eye at the United Center.
Prior to losing the lightweight championship to dos Anjos back in March, Pettis was riding a five-fight winning streak, with his most recent win coming against Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181 in December.
Barboza is coming off a loss against Michael Johnson back in February, but won his two fights prior to that. He is known to have some of the best leg kicks in the MMA world, as noted by MMAFighting.com. Jury is also coming off his lone loss, a unanimous decision defeat at the hands of the red-hot Donald Cerrone, but remains a promising MMA star.
Nate Diaz took to Twitter to weigh in on the most recent injury victim in the UFC. "I'm 23 fights deep in the @ufc since 21 I never pulled out of a fight ur #bothmadefromglass #lolaturs**ttalkin #rookies," Diaz tweeted reacting to a Twitter exchange between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Pettis.
In July last year, Nurmagomedov sent a tweet to Pettis asking him how much disability payment he gets from the UFC. After Nurmagomedov was forced to withdraw from his UFC 187 match with Cerrone due to a knee injury, Pettis retaliated with, "@Teamkhabib karma is a b*tch hope that disability pays well!!!"
UFC on FOX 16 is headlined by a bantamweight title rematch between champion T.J. Dillashaw and Renan Barao.
