Missy Elliott News: Singer's Song Traffic Spikes on Spotify, 676 Percent, Post Super Bowl Performance
An unexpected but very eye-opening turn of events came forward after the surprise performance by Missy Elliot at the Halftime of the Superbowl with Katy Perry.
Katy Perry's performance was nothing short of extravagant with her giant tiger, singing sharks and beach balls, etc., but she also brought out some guests to add to her presentation. Along with Missy, there was Lenny Kravitz, and it was recently reported that all three artists saw a huge spike in their Spotify traffic, most notably Missy Elliot with a 676 percent increase.
"According to data provided by Spotify, of the three tracks Missy Elliott performed, 'Lose Control' saw a streaming boost of 1,396 percent, 'Get Ur Freak On', a 922 percent boost and 'Work It', 896 percent boost. Spotify derived these numbers by comparing her Spotify activity the hour before the Super Bowl to its peak between 11:00 pm and Midnight. Missy Elliott's last album, 'The Cookbook', came out in 2005, while her seventh studio album, 'Block Party', still doesn't have a release date," writes Huffington Post.
It became apparent that due to Missy's lack of activity in the current generation of pop music, a lot of viewers were unaware of her influence. Her disappearance from the scene was announced in 2008 with her diagnosis with Graves disease.
"Anybody that has Graves disease, you feel like you finna be outta here, and for me when you say you gotta take a radiation pill you think you really finna be outta here. You know, like what do I really have?" Elliott told the radio show she experienced a number of physical changes. "And you gotta go through seeing my eyes change, and your hair fall out, your skin change. For me that was traumatic," Missy stated in an interview in 2008.
Missy expressed her amusement on Twitter when she tweeted: "the new kids think I'm a new artist &I'm bout 2blow up like Paul McCartney Lord ha mercy chile I love me sum y'all".
