'Mission Impossible' Cast News: 'Rogue Nation' Star Rebecca Ferguson Aims For 'The Girl On The Train' Role

After just completing her coveted role opposite Tom Cruise in Rogue Nation, Rebecca Ferguson is aiming for the starring role of Anna in the Tate Taylor-directed adaptation of the Paula Hawkins novel The Girl On The Train.

Anna is one of the three main female roles in the thriller. Emily Blunt is also pegged for the part of the narrator, a recent divorcee who starts fantasizing about a couple she passes every day on the train.

The couple seems perfect, but one day she witnesses a shocking event and becomes mixed up in the ensuing mystery.

Ferguson won praise for her role as a shadowy agent in the latest installment of the Mission Impossible franchise, holding her own opposite Tom Cruise.

Since then, she's been in demand.

She was shortlisted for the female lead role in Fox's X-Men spinoff Gambit together with Lea Seymour of 007 Spectrestar and Abbey Lee of Mad Max: Fury Road, but decided to pull herself out of that commitment to take the coveted role of Anna.

Ferguson, who is represented by ICM Partners, Charles Collier at Tavistock-Wood and Laura Munsterhjelm at Actors in Scandinavia, also recently completed Florence Foster Jenkins opposite Meryl Streep and Hugh Grant, which was directed by Stephen Frears.

The Girl On The Train has been called the next Gone Girl as it is also an adaptation of a publishing phenomenon and features similar thriller elements to last year's hit thriller.

Directed by Tate Taylor and with a script co-written by Erin Cressida Wilson The Girl On The Train looks like it will capture audiences with its intrigue and mystery.

It will be produced by Marc Platt and executive produced by Jared LeBoff and Celia Costa. Release dates for The Girl On The Train have yet to be confirmed.
