Miss Israel Doron Matalon News: Controversial Selfie Photo with Miss Lebanon Saly Greige
Miss Lebanon, Saly Greige, appeared in a selfie picture with Miss Israel and two other contestants of the Miss Universe pageant, which has become the source of political contention.
Greige appeared in the photo with Miss Israel, Doron Matalon, who posted the photo online on her Instagram account, in Miami. Also seen with the two of them are two are contestant from Slovenia, Urška Bra?ko, and Miss Japan, Keiko Tsuji.
Forums on Television and political platforms alike have criticized her for her seemingly innocent photograph. Greige, however, claims that her Israeli counterpart has photobombed the selfie and she caught by surprise, according to the Beirut-based newpaper, The Daily Star.
Explaining the situation on Facebook, the beauty pageant said, "From the first day I arrived at the Miss Universe pageant, I was very careful not to take any pictures with Miss Israel, who tried repeatedly to take pictures with me. "While I was preparing with Miss Slovenia and Miss Japan to get our photograph taken, Miss Israel jumped in and took a selfie with her phone and posted it on social media," according to The Daily Star.
Miss Israel, however, has a different side to the story, which entirely contradicts what Greige has to say. Explaining her side of the story, Matalon said, "We took a group picture with Miss Slovenia, Miss Japan, and Miss Lebanon," said Matalon. "She must have received criticism from fans in Lebanon after I uploaded it, and now she will not stand next to me in any situation," according to Ynet News.
"It doesn't surprise me, but it still makes me sad. Too bad you cannot put the hostility out of the game," she was quoted as saying according to Agence France-Presse.
Relations between the two states remain sour, and ever since Israel fought a bloody war with Lebanese Shiite terror group Hezbollah in 2006, the matters have gone from bad to worse.
