'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' Release Date, News: Closed Beta Starts April 22; Learning Skills More Organic?
One of the complaints about the "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" was that some of the movements by Faith could not be performed by default. But the senior producer of the game defended the decision that earned the ire of some fans.
Jeremy Miller talked to Game Spot and addressed the news report about Faith's movements being locked and can only be accessed once the player can reach a certain level.
"We've got a different control scheme. It's a little more intuitive and fluid," he said. "Part of having this progression in there is to allow you to be able to master your tools, and to give you a little bit of breathing room so you feel confident and excited about what you can do."
For instance, the Quickturn could not be executed at the outset but Miller said that players didn't even utilize it as much.
"We've seen a distinct increase in people going, 'Oh, I've got this, how do I use it?' It's worked into people's movement language much more successfully as a result of doing that."
In other news, the "Mirror's Edge Catalyst will reportedly be released next month on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. The closed beta will start on April 22, which will give the developer a lot of input and feedback from the other developers.
Design director Erik Odeldahl shared the news in a blog post that the closed beta for "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" will last for five days until April 26.
"Closed Beta participants will be able to try out several of the main missions in Faith's story, Side Missions, other optional content, and the Social Play features Mirror's Edge Catalyst has to offer," he wrote.
