Minnesota Vikings NFL 2015 News, Rumors: Adrian Peterson Will Not Attend Optional Team Practices?
After being reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell last month, and the team getting through the draft without making a move to deal him, the Minnesota Vikings hoped they could carry on into next season without any more drama surrounding their star running back Adrian Peterson. It appears, though, that would not be the case as the Associated Press reports that Peterson has informed Vikings coach Mike Zimmer that he will be skipping the team's optional practices scheduled this week.
As the AP reports, the decision to miss the optional workouts could end up costing Peterson, who was reinstated after being charged with child abuse, some $250,000. He went through the optional practices last season, but with his expressed unhappiness with the organization following what he deemed was a lack of support during his legal battles, it's a much different situation this time around.
Peterson's desire to be traded has been no secret, making the matter known through his representatives. He is still under contract with the Vikings for three more seasons, and is set to make $12.75 million next season. During the period when he dealt with the child abuse charges, he missed all but one game last season.
The Vikings will also have a mandatory minicamp on June 16-18, as well as optional practices set for June 2-4 and 8-11. Should Peterson decide to miss any of those camps, he would be subject to hefty fines from the team, the AP report notes.
In 104 career games with the Vikings, the 30-year-old Peterson has amassed 10,190 rushing yards, averaging 98 rushing yards a game in his eight-year career. In 2012, he was awarded the NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and the league's most valuable player after rushing for 2,097 yards, the most he's had in a single season.
