'Minecraft Pocket Edition' Release News: New Version on All Major Phone Platforms [VIDEO]

Following the appearance of 'Minecraft' on the Windows Store this week, the popular sandbox independent video game is now officially available on Windows Phones. In fact, the game is now accessible on all main phone platforms.

However, according to IBTimes, people using Windows phones can access the game, which has been officially named 'Minecraft: Pocket Edition', only if their device runs on the Windows 8.1 operating system.

Both the iOS and Android Pocket Editions 'Minecraft: Pocket Edition' are available for $6.99. The game incorporates all the familiar features like the Survival mode, Creative mode in addition to multiplayer using Wi-Fi. This is the first release from Microsoft after the Redmond-based tech giant acquired Mojang, which developed the video game originally, for $2.5 billion some months back.

A report by Eurogamer states that since its release, 'Minecraft: Pocket Edition', has sold more than 21 million downloads for both Android as well as iOS phones. The figure is not surprising when considering the fact that the entire game needs just 12-megabyte space on your device. According to the website report, the outlook for the game, however, was not so bright earlier.

About two years back, 'Minecraft' creator Markus Persson took to his Twitter account to announce that Microsoft had offered him to make the game more adaptable for the Windows platform. Once the deal with Microsoft was sealed, Persson declares that he would be leaving 'Minecraft' in the hands of the tech giant for its better future, the report said.
