'Minecraft' PC Update Download News: Mojang Bundles Java & Installer for Additional Security
Swedish video game developer Mojang has just released a 'Minecraft' update that offers additional security to gamers using Windows PCs. Precisely speaking, the new update bundles Java with 'Minecraft' while downloading and eliminates a separate complete version of Java.
Engadget says that the new version of 'Minecraft' released by Mojang offers a standalone Java version while downloading the game. As a result, the update protects users from latent security threats presented by the previous a Java setup that worked separately. The new version only operates when one is using the game.
The latest 'Minecraft' update, however, is only available for gamers using Windows PCs, although Mojang has assured that it will roll out another update for OS X users later in 2014. Windows PC users can download the update by clicking here.
Meanwhile, The Register elucidates that the earlier setup made users mark boxes when the Java is downloaded to avoid additional options and irrelevant things from being added. Precisely speaking, the Java browser plugin was the particular security threat to PC users. In any case, Mojang has eliminated this altogether in the updated installer.
The report says that in addition to helping the players by providing additional security, the update will help players keep up with Java updates. While it was a boring task earlier, with Java being bundled with 'Minecraft' now, players will update more often. According to developer Nathan "Dinnerbone" Adams, this will ultimately help the game's performance.
Dinnerbone said that he has been endeavoring to get 'Minecraft' players to update to the most recent update, Java 8.
The Register says Dinnerbone's post on Reddit reads, "A really, really big percentage of our players use 32-bit java on 64-bit machines, and they don't even know." He further wrote, "64-bit java runs significantly better in a lot of scenarios for 'Minecraft,' so it's just a waste that they do this."
