Milwaukee Bucks 2015 News: Bucks Reach Buyout Agreement Over Larry Sanders
Before the whirlwind of moves that marked this season's NBA trade deadline, the Milwaukee Bucks finalized a contract buyout with its troubled center Larry Sanders, Yahoo Sports reported.
According to the report, Sanders will be leaving with a portion of the four-year $44 million contract he signed in 2013.
Other reports that have since surfaced and said that the 26-year-old would leave $21 million of the $44 million on the table, and added that the Bucks will be using the stretch provision to pay the defensive-minded center some $13-15 million spread across the next seven seasons.
Sanders could sign with another team's playoff roster before March 1, but sources told Yahoo Sports that he has no plans to pursue a deal with an NBA team this season.
The promising defensive presence has had multiple violations of the NBA's anti-drug policy, and said that he used his recent 10-game suspension to deal with personal issues, and "learn to live without marijuana use."
After averaging career of bests of 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks in the 2012-2013 season, which led to his big contract, Sanders has had a string of setbacks with suspensions and injuries that have derailed his potential.
Just a few weeks into the 2013-2014 season, after signing his big contract, Sanders was involved in a bar fight that resulted in a torn ligament in his right thumb. The injury caused him to miss 25 games.
He played only 23 games that entire season.
Sanders was also suspended for the last five games of the 2013-2014 season for testing positive for marijuana. NBA rules state that his next positive test would call for a 10-game suspension without pay.
In 27 games with the Bucks this season, Sanders has averaged 7.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.
