Milk Music News: Samsung Streaming Experiment Heads To Early Grave; Service Ending In September
The news about Samsung ending its streaming service, Milk Music, seemed anti-climactic considering the writing on the wall that has been there since last year.
In a statement posted on its website, Samsung said that the Milk Music streaming service will officially end on Sept. 22, 2016.
"We have made the strategic decision to invest in a partner model focused on seamlessly integrating the best music services available today into our family of Galaxy devices," the statement said. "We believe that working with partners will accelerate innovation, enhance device sales and provide amazing new experiences for our customers."
However, Samsung has not shared any more details to news sites regarding its decision to end the Milk Music streaming service.
The announcement doesn't really take anybody by surprise considering that Samsung has struggled to attract users to the Milk Music service.
Variety said the beginning of the end for Milk Music was the news about personnel termination in July. Among those who left were Darren Tsui, the SVP for content and services; Steve Sanford the SVP for business development; Ian Langridge, the general manager; John Pleasants, EVP for media solutions and Ed Ho, VP for content and services.
But its troubles can be traced back in September of last year when Samsung also shuttered Milk Video service after just a year into the launch.
Even the news to sign Rihanna to promote Milk Music failed to incite some excitement for users, Fortune said. The South Korean company invested $25 million to get the pop star to agree as a product endorser.
