Microsoft Xbox One Backwards Compatibility List Update: Additional Games To Receive Support

Microsoft recently revealed a new wave of backward compatibility updates for its popular game console, Xbox One.

Backwards compatibility of apps, videogames and operating systems seems to be a new trend in technology. As computing power progresses, many expensive and formerly state-of-the-art gadgets become obsolete at a much faster rate.

One solution to this problem is through backwards compatibility. This is basically about allowing older OS and hardware to run newer apps and games. This is advantageous to both the users and technology developers.

On one hand, the users do not need to upgrade their hardware devices or software applications. On the other hand, the technology developers will be able to reach a wider consumer base. Older technologies will have extended usefulness.

This is a win-win situation that Microsoft has finally realized.

According to a latest announcement from Microsoft, the next batch of games that will receive backwards compatibility with Xbox One will include "Halo: Reach," "Deus Ex: Human Revolution," "Fable III" and other similar games.

When the Xbox One backward compatibility was launched in November, it already had a list of 104 supported games.

As a result, approximately 9 million hours were spent by players in Xbox 360. Some of the games that increased in popularity because of the backwards compatibility included "Fallout 3," "Gears of War 3," "Just Cause 2," "Assassin's Creed II," and "DiRT 3."

There are other recently added videogames that are made backward compatible. These games can be downloaded from Xbox Live and the Xbox 360 discs can be used to unlock the new compatible versions.
