Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Release Date, Specs, Price: ‘Laplet’ Hybrid to Land 2015?
Rumors that Microsoft will no longer release a follow-up for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 have been going around since the tech giant kept quiet about it for the past few months. However, in a recent post on the official Surface Blog, Microsoft seemed to debunk the rumors once and for all.
"We are pleased to share that the following Surface pro 3 accessories are designed with our product roadmap in mind and will be compatible with the next generation of the 'Pro' line Surface," Brian Hall, General Manager for the Surface line stated in his blog on Oct. 9.
Meanwhile, rumor has it that Microsoft has already been working with the Surface Pro 4, but just hasn't announced it yet.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella further cemented the rumors that a Surface Pro 4 is already underway as she revealed that all of the current accessories of the Surface Pro 3 will also be compatible with an unnamed "next generation" tablet, which should be the Surface Pro 4.
Furthermore, Hall's statement suggests that the Surface Pro 3 will have a follow-up, the Surface Pro 4, which will have similar accessories including Ethernet adapters, type cover keyboards, a docking station accessory as its predecessor.
The Surface Pro 4 is said to be very similar to its predecessor in terms of dimensions. It is also expected to sport the same high quality 12-inch screen.
Air Herald reports that majority of the changes will be in the hardware. The Surface Pro 4 may come with a faster processor and more RAM.
As for the operating system, the Surface Pro 4 is said to have Windows 9, or Windows 10 if the new OS comes before the device.
Meanwhile, Gordon Ung of MaximumPC and Nick Pino of Tech Radar projected how the Surpace Pro 4 would look in a video.
They speculated that the device may run with Intel Core M which will provide better power and battery life and will make the device capable of casual gaming.
With regards to its design, Ung and Pino stated that Surface Pro 4 will not be thinner than the Surface Pro 3 which is 8-mm thick.
In terms of the price, they speculated that the Surface Pro 4 will come with a $1000-$2000 dollar price range (a pretty hefty price tag since according to them, the user is paying for a highly capable tablet-pc hybrid).
The Surface Pro 4 is speculated to launch in 2015.
