Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Release Date News: Launch Likely in October; Sales of Surface Pro 3 Surge
Even as Microsoft prepared to launch the Surface Pro 4 this October, the previous edition of the tablet series has been experiencing a sudden surge in sales. According to some reports, revenues from the Surface Pro 3 are increasing like never before, reports IB Times.
Citing the latest earnings report released by Microsoft, Twice reported that the sales growth of Surface tablet lineup increased by 117 percent, which translates to $888 million. It denotes that both Surface Pro 3 and Surface 3 tablets, which were launched in June 2014 and May 2015, respectively, have performed very well in the market. In general, sales of these tablets apparently improved 65 percent throughout the year, crossing $3.6 billion.
According to Amy Hood, Microsoft Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Vice-President, the Surface tablets were extensively popular in the educational sector. Yibada quoted Hood as saying that the success of the two-in-one tablets is mostly because the device has the ability to double as a laptop along with the optional keyboard as a companion.
Meanwhile, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, "Surface is clearly a product where we've gotten the formula right, earned fans, and can apply this formula to other parts of our hardware portfolio." It is expected that the Redmond-based tech giant will pit the Surface Pro 4 against Apple iPad Pro.
A recent report in Tech Times said the Surface Pro 4 is expected to run Windows 10 right out of the box. In addition, the device is supposed to boast a 12-inch display, rendering a screen resolution of 2,000 pixels. The slate is expected to be powered by an Intel Skylake processor and supported by 16GB of RAM.
In terms of memory specification, the upcoming Surface Pro 4 is likely to be equipped with up to 1 terabyte of built-in storage capacity. These aside, the upcoming slate is reported to come with an advanced stylus and a USB Type-C port. According to Yibada, the other optional accessories of the device include a keyboard, Type Cover 3 as well as a Docking Station.
As of now, all these features and specifications can be considered as mere speculations, as Microsoft is yet to make any official announcement regarding the Surface Pro 4 or its release date.
