Microsoft Surface Pro 3, Surface Mini Release Date: To Arrive May 20?

Microsoft is likely to release the much-awaited third generation of its Surface tablets together with the launch of its Microsoft Surface Mini at a press conference in the New York City on May 20.

Recently, the tech titan posted something on its website support page, which referenced the "Surface Pro 3 camera." Even though it could be a typographical error and some claimed it actually was trying to refer to the Surface Pro 2, it trails information from CNET asserting that there is "definitely a new Surface base on Intel," in addition to the Mini, which is powered by Qualcomm.

An industry source revealed to CNET, "From what I can assess so far I think it's going to (have) a new power-optimized Haswell variant."

If the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is released at the New York City press conference next week, the Intel-based tablet will have been launched in less than a year from its predecessor.

Up to now, the Microsoft Surface Pro releases have yet to commit to a stable and predictable pattern. Although Microsoft is yet to make any official announcement regarding the supposed Microsoft Surface Pro 3 release date, it is strongly believed by various sources that the Surface Pro and Mini tablets will be launched during the press meet at NYC.

It is rumored that the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 will be a refreshed tablet sporting predictable similarities, but with a slimmer design compared to the existing lightweight Microsoft Surface Pro 2, which only weighs two pounds.

The earlier variations of Surface Pro tablets were all exclusively powered by Intel processors and the Surface Pro 3 will also be the same. In addition, it is likely that the Microsoft Pro 3 will have the superior "Skylake" Intel Core i7 chip, which promises to make the device speedier. Speculation is rife that it will also incorporate an impressive LED backlit Retina IPS display at 290ppi.
