Microsoft Surface Mini Release Date Rumors: New Miniture Model Launches This Month?
Microsoft launched its Surface Pro 3 tablet last May and rumors surfaced that the company will release a smaller version sometime soon. Microsoft is rumored to release the Surface Mini before the year ends in December.
Surface Mini was supposed to be launched together with the Surface Pro, however, that did not happen. Speculations as to why Microsoft has delayed the release have been discussed. In the middle of the year, Microsoft has stated that they are not planning to unveil a new device.
The company said in an announcement, "Current year cost of revenue included Surface inventory adjustments resulting from our transition to newer generation devices and a decision to not ship a new form factor."
However, the speculation about the Surface Mini release was fueled again by the Surface Pro's high sales in this quarter that amounted to $908 million compared to $400 million last year. The release of Microsoft Surface Pro tablets spiked company revenue.
As with Microsoft Surface Mini's details, the tablet will allegedly be an 8-inch or 10.1-inch display. Rumors surfaced that the small gadget will be the first device to run Microsoft's latest Windows 10 OS. If the speculations are true, sales for the Surface Mini will only start after the Windows 10 is released in the middle of 2015.
Another feature that users may look forward to is the keyboard accessories. All Surface tablets focus on productivity. The Surface Mini may obtain a free OneDrive cloud storage and a free copy of Office & Home 2013 just like the previous Microsoft Surfaces.
As of this time, Microsoft has not stated a formal announcement regarding the Surface Mini release. Tech experts pointed out the challenges the new gadget may face such as the competition with the affordable Windows Notebook.
While waiting for the highly anticipated Surface Mini, users can buy the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 on the company's online store for $799.
