Microsoft Surface Book vs. MacBook Pro Comparison News: Which Device is the Better Buy?

Recently, Microsoft claimed that its latest device, the Surface Book, is two times as fast as Apple's MacBook Pro 13-inch model, however, that's not the case. Apparently, the new Microsoft product is three times as fast the Apple notebook.

While all that's well and good, there is a catch, it's unlikely that the Microsoft Surface Book will be able to match the power of Apple's upcoming MacBook Pro 15, says PC World. That's expected as the Surface Book is meant to be a powerful device at a fair and average price.

While Microsoft never specified what exact test they used to come up with the idea that their product is twice as fast as the MacBook Pro, PC World went ahead and dug a little deeper. According to their finding executive editor Gordon Mah believes the test they conducted was based on a GeForce chip.

They ran a benchmark test with a 'Tomb Raider' game at 1400 x 900 resolution on Average quality video settings. They found that the MacBook Pro pulled 24 FPS while the Surface Book was able to top out at 74 FPS. The difference is approximately three times the difference, so the Surface Book is not just twice as fast as the MacBook Pro.

Stepping into the specs of the Microsoft Surface book some interesting features are found. The device runs on an Intel Core i5 Ship with 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM, for the $1,499 version. The alternative model, priced at $3,199, has an Intel Core i7 processor with 1 TB storage and a whopping 16 GB RAM.

On a side note, the more powerful model of the Microsoft Surface Book will be made available in January, 2016, says USA Today.

Moving into some more hardware, the Surface Book has a 13.5 inch detachable touch screen display that allowed the user to convert the device into a tablet. Moreover, the device comes with the Surface Pen which makes it easy to jot down notes at business meetings, or doodle a drawing at the park during lunch break.

As a tablet, the device will run about three hours on its battery, and when it's attached to the keyboard it can run as long as 12 hours.

While there are many comparisons out there and reasons to get the Surface Book over a MacBook Pro, it's ultimately up to the techie to find out which one works best for them.
