Microsoft Surface Book 2 Release Date Rumors Roundup: Windows 10 Redstone, Kaby Lake Processor Push Backs Launch Date?
The release of the Microsoft Surface Book 2 is reportedly going to be delayed because the tech giant is waiting on Intel's Kaby Lake, which is anticipated to roll out in the third quarter of this year. Meanwhile, the device is allegedly going to come with a pre-installed Windows 10 Redstone.
According to Tech Radar, Microsoft might be postponing the release of its next gen products, including the Surface 5 and Surface Book 2, to integrate the Kaby Lake.
That means that the Microsoft Surface Book 2 could be released late 2016 or early 2017.
There's also rumor about the new device already featuring the Windows 10 Redstone, which could further delay the release date.
"Recent rumors indicate that Redstone 2 (RS2) wouldn't arrive until sometime early 2017, next to new branded hardware devices and the long-awaited Surface Phone, all of which will take direct advantage of the new RS2 features," it said.
The Kaby Lake, according to the leaked specs, feature a "Core i7-7700K is a quad-core chip clocked at 3.6GHz that can ramp up to 4.2GHz via Turbo Boost. It also features 8MB of L3 cache and 256KB of L2 cache." Also, there would be two models for the chipset, but it's not known which will be utilized by Microsoft Surface Book 2, if at all.
As to the price of the Microsoft Surface Book 2, the device won't certainly be cheaper than the current models being sold in the market today, one being sold from a low of $1,349 and the other at $3,199 for the 1TB model. But again, it's too early to speculate.
