Microsoft Office 2016 for Windows News: Productivity Suite Release on Sept. 22

Microsoft released its new Office for Mac in July and at that time there were news regarding the release of the Office suite for machines running Windows. Now, the Redmond-based tech titan has announced the release date for Office 2016.

According to Christian Today, in a post on the Office blog site, Microsot Office 365 Technical Product Management general manager Julia White confirmed the rumors that the Office 2016 would be rolled out next week and people with volume licences can avail it in October.

White wrote, "You may have heard the rumors, but today I'm happy to confirm that Office 2016 will be broadly available starting on September 22nd," adding, "If you have a volume licensing agreement in place, you can download Office 2016 from the Volume Licensing Service Center starting October 1st."

The report further says that people are using Office 365 Personal and Home editions can start installing the new 2016 apps from Sept. 22 from office.com. In the meantime, the updates for the apps will be made available in October, with the pattern modeled after the Windows 10 updates. In other words, the new Office 2016 will be receiving new updates automatically.

While the new Office 2016 will appear similar to the previous versions of the app, Microsoft had listed the several upgrades for the new app, which includes new operation as well as management options for users. The company has also incorporated support for data loss prevention across the app, and multi-factor authentication.

The post by White also talks about the details on the Office 2016 roll out for Office 365 ProPlus, the subscription edition meant for organizations. In addition to the integrated, automatic updates on the new Office 316, the new apps for ProPlus subscribers will also offer access to a new Current Branch for Business option from February next year, with security updates for four additional months.
